Announcing: “La Niña de los Fósforos” a Short Film by todolaMEDIA
The Announcement
Today todolaMEDIA is proud to announce “La Niña de los Fósforos” the upcoming short film animated and produced by Reece Morgado scheduled for public release on the 28th of June!
The title-card of the animation ripped directly from the camera feed. Colour grading and composition not final.
This animation has been entirely hand-painted on glass and should last in duration somewhere between 1-2 minutes.
Based upon a short story by Hans Christian Andersen. Tells the story of a young orphan girl on a cold winter night selling matchsticks in a small town centre until she finds herself lighting matches for warmth and is visited by a familiar face…
Look forward to seeing the official releases on Vimeo, and YouTube and be sure to follow @todolaMEDIA on Twitter for updates as they come.
The Production
Currently all but two shots have been animated and filmed with the remainder waiting to be shot on Monday the 17th of June. After this I will undergo a short hiatus until Wednesday the 19th of June (or possibly Thursday the 20th due to travelling) when I will begin work on the post-production and compositing of my short film. During this process I will be documenting parts of the process for publication in a further blog-post alongside filming a short behind-the-scenes video to release alongside the final product.
A quick look at the set up I was using early on during the first shot of the film.
The Release
On the 28th of June the short film “La Niña de los Fósforos” will be published simultaneously on Vimeo and YouTube with accompanying announcements on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram (if I can remember it).
Alongside this a short behind-the-scenes video will be released exclusively to Vimeo and shared on this site. Additionally, a text-based blog detailing the crew behind this film, their various roles during film-production, more in-depth looks at the techniques used within the film, and some bonus behind-the-scenes photography, will be published at the same time exclusively to this site.
A single frame of animation ripped directly from the camera-feed.
Additional Thanks/Credits
Finally, I’d like to give a huge thank you to the following people, without whom this project would never have gotten off the ground.
Firstly the talented cinematographer Vince Ring [Instagram: @redhaus_cinema_] and David Taylor [instagram: david.taylor.film] from Laser House who helped me film several test shots to capture several the most difficult scenes in the project to produce. Without their help it’s safe to say this film would not look half as good as it does!
And secondly would be the fantastic stop-motion animator, set-builder and prop-fabricator Elliot Rowe [Instagram: rowe_motion_studio] who helped me with the camera and lighting set up used to film not only this piece but another similar shot used in Heroicks MINUS.
Please be sure to check out all of their works and follow them in the future for any amazing projects they put out.
